The fifth wall of contract design

La quinta pared del contract

Ceiling décor for a more immersive and distinctive atmosphere

The ceiling is the most overlooked surface in any interior design project. Yet, when handled well, it is the element that most transforms a space.

For this Italian restaurant in Denia, working alongside Mónica Fullana’s studio, we decided to extend the wall covering up onto the ceiling. The result is a truly immersive atmosphere—warm and Mediterranean—with a distinct character that walls and floors alone could not achieve.

The ceiling as a design element

In the contract sector, ceilings are typically finished with paint or plaster. While functional, this approach is neutral. Covering the ceiling with wallpaper—just as one would a wall—opens up a completely different dimension. Texture, pattern, and color are literally positioned above the client, creating an enveloping effect.

In this instance, we used Wallcover with a *papyruscover* finish, which adds color and stands up perfectly to the demands of a dining space. The ceiling ceases to be a mere backdrop and becomes a focal point.

A hospitality project that looks upwards

With its Mediterranean ambiance, the restaurant boasts another highlight in its lighting—the lamps are eye-catching from the very first moment—yet it is the ceiling that defines the atmosphere the moment you walk in.

Combining Wallcover products with the design concept from Mónica Fullana’s studio creates a space with a distinct character, far removed from the interchangeable interiors that abound in the industry.

This type of solution also offers a practical advantage: wallpaper allows for the introduction of design without the need for construction work, ensuring a clean installation and a striking result.

Other ways to decorate the fifth wall

Ceiling treatments go beyond standard cladding. In contract projects, sheer curtains offer an equally striking solution: lightweight fabrics suspended from the ceiling that filter light, define spaces, and add movement without creating visual heaviness.

Unlike opaque fabrics, sheers allow the underlying architecture—beams, lighting fixtures, geometric lines—to remain visible, integrating these elements rather than concealing them. The effect is immediate in hotel corridors, common areas, and restaurants.

For ceiling installations in contract settings, we require certified flame retardancy, dimensional stability, and resistance to yellowing. And because every ceiling presents unique structural realities—such as light fixtures, sprinklers, or irregular geometries—we handle manufacturing and travel to the site to oversee installation.
